‘Computer Funk’

This track by Osé was bootlegged not so long ago (sadly putting the brakes on a Breakin’ license) so it’s quite easy to find now. Co-written by James McCauley of Maggotron, this track takes the essence of electrofunk and eliminates everything else. The pure frustrated funk production was by PB Floyd, and Osé was the name of Floyd’s newly born son. Listening to this track puts the Miami scene in perspective, and its release in 1983 (on Bound Sound) gave McCauley his first break, with the Maggotron debut, ‘Computer Pop’, coming out the year after. Floyd went on to produce the freestyle classic, ‘Diamond Girl’, by Nice & Wild.
