Like so many important contributors to the early Chicago house scene, Rodney Bakerr doesn’t always get his dues, and whilst not everything that his Chicago label Rocking House released was classic, this track by Mystic is one of the best… not just from the label, but from the whole city. The incredible acid mix was produced and mixed by Bakerr, and although ‘House Girl’ was recently reissued by Clone, this version wasn’t included on the release…
Perhaps Bakerr’s most influential moment came when he was asked by Roland to write the drum patterns for the Roland Drum Machine Dictionary, their instruction guide for beat programming. You can imagine budding producers copying the patterns into their machines and just switching it a bit. It doesn’t get more foundation-laying than that.
