‘Breaker’
Released on Radar Records in 1983, Richie Scotti’s ‘Breaker’ was mixed by Eric Matthew, a prolific producer who worked from the late ’70s and throughout the ’80s on disco and electro labels. Real name Joe Tucci, he produced hits for Sharon Redd, Dr Jeckyll & Mr Hyde and many others, and was as comfortable producing b-boy electro as he was Studio 54 disco. He was also one of the guys behind the group Gary’s Gang (also on Radar).
‘Breaker’ is a pretty generic track, but still has enough going for it to stick in the mind. Tucci may not have been a pioneer or innovator, but I’ve posted it because it seems to reveal how effortless he found it all. But the real highlight in his discography is his co-production on the Elektrik Funk classic, ‘On A Journey (I Sing The Funk Electric)’… and for that you can’t really touch him.
