High Tech Soul
Released a couple of years ago, this documentary on the history of techno music is now available for free and in its entirety, courtesy of Plexifilm and Vimeo.

As is often the case with this kind of documentary, the interviewer doesn’t seem to ask questions beyond the basics, so you’re left with a 101 of the scene, without any interesting revelations. I wish someone would make a documentary about techno (or electro or house) that wasn’t aimed at someone with only a vague knowledge of the music, but someone who had been brought up with it and already understood it. Maybe then we could get into more interesting details… but I guess that’s what books are for.
